National leader of the Hungarian Democreatic Union of Romania (UDMR) Kelemen Hunor said on Tuesday evening about the ongoing conflict in Israel that it could be long-lasting, with consequences that cannot be anticipated.
"The problem is that we see Ukraine, we see what happened between Azerbaijan and Armenia, in Nagorno-Karabakh, we see what is happening now in the Near East with this infernal terrorist attack by Hamas against Israel and everything is happening as if coordinated by someone somewhere , it is not known from where and by whom; maybe these terror movements in the Near East are just taking advantage of the opportunities, but it means that the one who took up the role of the world's cop at this moment has to be present in several areas with new forces, with consolidated forces. The United States has to be in the Pacific Ocean area, because there are also permanent challenges; it has to be in NATO, in Europe with very, very well consolidated forces and on the eastern flank. Now it has to be present in the Mediterranean because there is an ongoing conflict there," Kelemen told TVR Info.
He added that a different approach to the geopolitical issues in this region is taking shape.
"Besides the fact that we all condemn this terror attack, it can be seen that a different approach to geopolitical issues is taking shape in this region. Of course, there are many who were disturbed that Israel is starting to establish some relations with Saudi Arabia and the Arab world. To the Palestinians, that is something new. They didn't accept Iran, of course it has interests in the area and there are growing interests and on this occasion it will be proven, I am convinced that Iran, at least tacitly, had an important role in this attack from Gaza towards Israel. We can certainly expect a long conflict, with consequences that at this moment we cannot suspect, but we can roughly estimate what will happen," said Kelemen.
The UDMR leader added that there is an increase in anti-Semitism, "from New York to Germany."
