Railway passenger public service operator CFR Calatori will mark on Saturday the 167th anniversary of the Union of the Romanian Principalities with the symbolic 'Union Train' (IC 561) running between Bucharest and Iasi.
"This initiative honors the legacy left by ruler Alexandru Ioan Cuza and celebrates the first fundamental step toward the creation of the Romanian unitary national state. On this national holiday, the IC 561 train, symbolically named the 'Union Train' will depart from Bucharest's Northern Station at 06:45, pulled by an engine decorated in the colors of the national flag. To highlight the importance of the event in local communities, the train will also make additional stops in Barlad and Vaslui," the company said in a statement.
Representatives of the Bucharest Regional Transport Police will accompany the train, joined along the way by colleagues from the Galati and Iasi regional departments. CFR Calatori said their presence will ensure a climate of peace and safety for passengers throughout the festive journey.
The train will stop at Ploiesti Sud, Mizil, Buzau, Ramnicu Sarat, Focsani, Tecuci, Barlad, Vaslui, Barnova, Nicolina and Iasi.
Given the large passenger flow expected for the holiday, CFR Calatori recommends purchasing tickets in advance to avoid overcrowding and encourages travelers to use all available trains in the schedule.
