The relationship with Romanians living and working in the UK, a community of over 1.3 million people, is a priority for bilateral relations between the two countries, Romanian Senate Chairman Mircea Abrudean said on Monday.

He welcomed at Parliament House Giles Portman, the UK ambassador to Romania, saying that Romania and the UK are linked to "a common vision" in terms of peace and commitment to observing the provisions of the international treaties to which they are part.

In a social media post Abrudean said that other important areas in the bilateral relationship are education, investments, a predictable economic environment, ensuring security on NATO's eastern flank, Romania's important strategic role and concerns regarding the partnership between the two countries on combatting human trafficking.

According to the Romanian Senate, the meeting highlighted the excellent level of bilateral relations and a consistent dialogue between the two countries, based on the Romanian-British Strategic Partnership and on the dynamic political, economic, sectoral and security cooperation.

"The common vision on peace and security was reaffirmed, as well as the firm commitment to Euro-Atlantic security, including through the participation of the United Kingdom, inside NATO, in missions carried out on the territory of Romania. (...) At the same time, the evolution of trade exchanges, which are on an upward trend, as well as the significant potential for deepening economic relations and stimulating mutual investments, in an increasingly diversified economic context, were analysed. The agenda of the meeting also included close cooperation in areas such as combatting disinformation, preventing and combatting trafficking in human beings, as well as the fight against organised crime, areas in which Romanian-British collaboration is considered particularly valuable."
