The state budget for 2026 must be adopted "swiftly," Senate President Mircea Abrudean said on Tuesday, adding that priorities should include increased investment, funding for local administration, no rises in taxes or duties and social protection "realistically" funded.
"Romania needs a state budget adopted swiftly, not endless discussions. The debates must be closed very quickly. We are in a complicated international context, with economic pressures and uncertainties coming from external markets. There is no need to add new domestic uncertainties through delays in the 2026 budget. From the perspective of the National Liberal Party, this budget must have four clear priorities: increased investment, more funds for local administrations, no rises in taxes or duties and social protection "realistically" funded," Abrudean wrote on his Facebook page, agerpres reports.
According to him, the effort to reduce the budget deficit must continue this year.
"These things are feasible, including in the context of the effort to reduce the budget deficit, which must continue this year. Predictability and responsibility are needed, and the governing coalition must follow the leadership of the Bolojan Government in order to establish a realistic budget without privileges," Mircea Abrudean underscored.
The governing coalition has decided that the final budget meeting will take place on Wednesday.
According to a briefing, the coalition met on Monday to discuss the budget structure, funding priorities and the overall framework necessary to ensure economic stability and the efficient functioning of state institutions.
"Within the meeting, the parties and representatives of national minorities in the coalition presented observations and proposals regarding budget allocations for key areas, with the shared objective of building a sustainable, realistic budget focused on the major needs of the citizens and the economy," according to the briefing.
