"I responded very clearly, unequivocally, in respect to the bewilderment regarding the SPP performance, that during the period in which I was placed under surveillance, I did not receive information that I was subjected to some surveillance measures by the Prosecutor's Office through Romanian Intelligence Service. I did not receive any signal from the SPP indicating that I am subjected to such surveillance for as long as I have benefited from the SPP services. This may involve several variants. One of the variants is that the services that conducted these operations were so discreet that they managed, just like the fly, not to be seen by the SPP. Perhaps they entered through the drain pipe and the drain pipe didn't have any kind of security. Just like in the movies," Tariceanu said at his hearing in the SPP investigation committee.
He mentioned that "a while back" he received an information from the Prosecutor's Office attached to the High Court of Cassation (PICCJ) and Justice in which he was informed that "a series of wire tapping" was conducted regarding his persona.
The Senate President mentioned that, besides this information from the PICCJ, he has at the same time a case in which he was charged with false testimony, but he was acquitted in the first trial at the the High Court.
The Senate President added that, under these conditions, there is a "collision between these surveillance activities, probably carried out by the Prosecutor's Office through intelligence services, in particular the SRI, and the obligations of the SPP."
Calin Popescu-Tariceanu is being heard on Tuesday by the SPP investigation committee in order to give details regarding the seven years when he would have been wire tapped, according to some information provided by former director of the SPP Dumitru Ilie during his hearing in the parliamentary committee.
Senate's Tariceanu says SPP didn't signal him of being placed under surveillance
President of the Senate Călin Popescu Tăriceanu stated on Tuesday that during the period when he was placed under surveillance he didn't receive any information from the Protection and Guard Service (SPP) that he would be subjected to some monitoring measures by the Prosecutor's Office through the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI).
