He mentioned that no analyse has been made at the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE) level because the referendum was not organised by the party.
"I said that in this referendum we should give citizens the possibility to express themselves, as a democratic exercise. (...) But I don't like what I see in the public space after the referendum concluded. This referendum is commented as being a victory for some and a defeat for others. For me, it is an inconclusive result, because the quorum has not been met. (...) The logic that I see more and more present in society and at the level of newly-emerged political parties - the USR [the Save Romania Union], Mr. Ciolos' movement - I do not understand. I think we need to find a common denominator. If we each have more radical, more extreme standpoints, Romania will not be able to progress. (...) The result reflects the citizens' lack of interest on this topic," Tariceanu told the Senate.
According to the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) data, available on Monday, at 12:00hrs, the voter turnout at the referendum on defining family stood at 21.08 percent. According to Law No. 3/2000, in order for the national referendum to be valid, a voter turnout of at least 30 percent of the persons registered on the permanent electoral roll is required.
Senate's Tariceanu says referendum result inconclusive and reflects citizens' lack of interest on this topic
The result of the referendum for the amendment of the Constitution is inconclusive because the quorum was not meet, reflecting the citizens' lack of interest for the topic that was the object of the popular consultation, President of the Senate Calin Popescu-Tariceanu said on Monday.
