Romania's and Portugal's representatives have convergent positions in numerous current files and can promote the values and policies which marked the recent history of their countries' democracy through a joint voice, by sharing similar, pro-European approaches, Senate President Calin Popescu-Tariceanu underscored at the meeting with Ambassador of the Portuguese Republic Fernando Teles Fazendeiro.
According to a release of the Senate sent to AGERPRES on Thursday, Calin Popescu-Tariceanu congratulated Fernando Teles Fazendeiro for his appointment as ambassador to Romania and assured him of the Senate's support in the demarches to promote the Romanian-Portuguese bilateral relations.
Tariceanu highlighted the importance of strengthening the bilateral dialogue through consultations regarding the current issue on the EU level, the parliamentary diplomacy being an important component in this demarche.
At the meeting, Tariceanu mentioned the importance of boosting the bilateral dialogue and diversifying the cooperation between Romania and Portugal, to the benefit of the two countries.
He revealed that, in Romania, the Portuguese culture is known and appreciated, and the cultural exchange programmes between the two nations, including through actions organised by the Romanian Cultural Institute in Lisbon, contribute to mutual knowledge, strengthening solidarity, as well as to the development of the bilateral relations in other areas of sectoral cooperation.
