Senate Speaker Calin Popescu Tariceanu on Thursday at a meeting with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Romania, Cord Meier-Klodt, pleaded for dialogue and "open and constant communication" between partners, while underscoring how important is that Romania's close partners have such an approach that will fairly reflect the stages and the outcome of the legislative process, considering the entire constitutional system guaranteed by the Constitution.
According to a press release of the Senate, the meeting has occasioned a review of the main issues of current interest on the bilateral agenda, in the mutually beneficial context of the economic cooperation relations existing between the two countries, as well as the contribution that Romania wishes to have in the context of the current European agenda.
"The Speaker of the Senate voiced his interest in the resumption of the inter-parliamentary dialogue following the September 2017 elections in the German Bundestag, while showing that a significant contribution to the promotion of parliamentary diplomacy is represented by the sustained activity of the two Friendship Parliamentary Groups. The Romanian side expressed conviction that this dialogue will be resumed once with the re-establishment in the German Bundestag of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Romania. Calin Popescu Tariceanu also noted the consistent attention paid by the Parliament, as the supreme representative forum, to legislative reforms in fundamental areas for strengthening the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary, with protection of the rights and freedoms of citizens being the first that matters, and also underscored how important is that Romania's close partners maintain an open and constant dialogue and communication with Romania, and to adopt such approach that will fairly reflect the stages and the outcome of the legislative process, considering the entire institutional system guaranteed by the Constitution," mentions the same source.
