Senate President Calin Popescu-Tariceanu Sunday evening told private TV broadcaster Antena 3 that the European Commission hasn't made any comment related to the collaboration protocols between the services and justice, adding that at the level of the EC there is "a certain level of discomfort" because a great deal of fuss has been made about the Co-operation and Verification Mechanism (CVM) and now "a huge rot emerges."
"I actually had an important meeting two weeks ago with an ALDE Europe delegation (...). When they heard about these things, the fact that secret protocols were managing the relations between the intelligence services and the Prosecutor's Office and the High Court, they were appalled. (...) I don't know if you have noticed that nothing is coming from the European Commission, there is no comment. I will tell what I believe. I respect my friends, my acquaintances, a series of relations I have built in time, the President of the Commission is a person I have collaborated with during my mandate as prime minister, when he was also the Prime Minister of Luxembourg and afterwards. However, at the level of the Commission I believe there is a certain level of discomfort, because for 10 years, actually 11, a great deal of fuss has been made about this CVM which was regularly assessing Romania's progress (...). After 11 years a huge rot emerges. What should the Commission do now? I believe the situation is not at all comfortable for the Commission," Tariceanu told Antena 3.
He further maintained that those from the European Commission already have "information that reveal serious deeds."
On the other hand, Tariceanu that parties have greatly "shaded" the position with respect to this situation.
