The Romanian Cultural Institute has announced the launch of its 2026 Scholarships and Residencies Programme, a strategic instrument aimed at supporting the professional development of researchers, architects, translators and cultural journalists, as well as promoting Romanian culture internationally.
According to a press release sent on Wednesday, the programme has a budget of EUR 64,000 and offers 21 grants for research, documentation and creative residencies, both in Romania and abroad. Its objective is to strengthen intercultural dialogue and develop sustainable professional networks between the cultural and academic sectors.
The 2026 edition includes six distinct calls, to be launched between April 8 and May 4.
Two calls were launched on Wednesday: the Lucian Blaga Scholarship - 3 grants, each lasting three months (June 15 - December 10), worth EUR 5,000 per grant, aimed at Romanian researchers (PhD candidates or established scholars); scholarships for Foreign Researchers - 3 grants, each lasting three months (June - December), worth EUR 5,000 per grant, intended for foreign researchers and PhD candidates interested in studying Romanian society and culture.
Residencies for Emerging Translators - 5 residencies, each lasting six weeks, worth EUR 1,500 per grant, addressed to early-career foreign nationals. The programme has an intensive format and includes Romanian language, literature and translation studies courses (at least three per week), taught by specialists, with mandatory attendance, providing a solid foundation for training a new generation of translators. The call will be launched on April 16.
The Ion Mincu Scholarship - 2 grants, each lasting two months (July 10 - December 10), worth EUR 4,500 per grant, aimed at Romanian architects (master's students, PhD candidates or professionals). The call will be launched on April 20.
The final two calls will be launched on May 4: scholarships for Professional Translators - 5 grants, each lasting six weeks (July 20 - December 10), worth EUR 2,000 per grant, aimed at foreign translators specialising in Romanian literature; scholarships for Foreign Cultural Journalists - 3 grants, each lasting one month (July 20 - December 10), worth EUR 2,500 per grant, intended for journalists interested in producing content promoting Romanian culture in the international media (articles, reports, photo-video documentaries), based on a well-defined editorial project.
The ICR Scholarships and Residencies Programme directly contributes to stimulating cultural and academic creation and research, developing beneficiaries' professional skills, strengthening international partnerships, promoting Romanian cultural values globally and increasing Romania's visibility through relevant cultural projects.
