Leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Liviu Dragnea on Sunday evening stated that the signal at the August 10 protests was given by a message posted by President Klaus Iohannis.
"That night, Iohannis posted a message. He gave the signal. He wanted to give two signals, one to intimidate the Gendarmerie and one to tell the violent protesters: don't be worried, nothing will happen to you, so that continue with what you are doing, and come tomorrow too, stay a few days if needed, in order that we reach the established objective, namely to occupy the government, to topple the government through violence. Which is why there is no need to carry out all those investigations. It is clear that everything started from here. And why is this happening? There have been a lot of talks in the recent time about organising new protests, violent again, more probably, somewhere at the end of October, with the idea being that the gendarmes who are already under investigation, who are already facing charges are now intimidated, so that the protestants can do whatever they like. I believe that this is Klaus Iohannis's intention. Which means that what he did was to give a strong blow against one of the state institutions that ensures public order and defends the state institution," Dragnea told Romania TV private television broadcast.
He specified that he is not a supporter of violent reactions by the gendarmers, but the attacks against the gendarmes during the August 10 protests were very powerful.
"I haven't seen, or at least there hasn't been the case until now, that the prosecutors were interested in investigating into such information that appeared in the public space about foreign financing, camps for instructing violent protesters. I saw that the prosecutors in Romania have reacted to even a half of e-mail for years, to a 10-second statement at television, when such actions of this magnitude, which can be extremely dangerous for the rule of law state and the constitutional order in Romania and for the stability of this country did not raise any concerns for them? These aren't dangerous, they cannot react to this?," said Dragnea.
