Romania's President Klaus Iohannis will be attending today the Social Summit for Fair Jobs and Growth in Goteborg, Sweden.
The summit brings together heads of state or government from the EU member states, social partners, but also other top-level key actors. It comprises an introductory plenary session and three working sessions: access to the labour market; fair employment and working conditions; in-between jobs: supporting transition.
"The meeting will address policies and initiatives in the area at European level to identify ways in which the European Union, the member states and the social partners can ensure the fulfillment of common economic and social priorities," the Romanian Presidential Administration says in a statement.
Iohannis will deliver a speech to the session on access to the labour market.
According to the Presidential Administration, Iohannis will emphasise the importance of education in ensuring that labour market requirements are met, and he will insist on continual adaptation of educational policies to technological developments and labour market dynamics.
He will also point out the need to reduce youth unemployment through relevant educational policies, and also by providing incentives to employers.
At the summit, a ceremony will be held to sign a proclamation endorsing the European Pillar of Social Rights.
An informal meeting of the members of the European Council will discuss future actions of the European Union in the areas of education and culture.
"During the debates, President Klaus Iohannis will express Romania's support for those projects and initiatives in these areas, designed to help regain citizens' confidence in European values and to enhance their sense of belonging to a true European community," the statement reads.
The President will also advocate intensifying cooperation in the youth area, highlighting the special impact of the Erasmus + programme (the European Union support programme for education, training, youth and sport) in building a European identity for young people and creating the skills required on the labour market.
"President Klaus Iohannis will underscore the importance of continuing the union's support programmes for the cultural sector as well as improving access to finance for businesses operating in this sector, given the role of culture in supporting economic growth and socio-economic development."
