President Klaus Iohannis had a bilateral meeting in New York on Thursday on the high-level segment of the 73rd Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations, with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Pavel Filip, in which they discussed the ways of deepening and expanding bilateral cooperation within the framework of the Strategic Partnership for European Integration of the Republic of Moldova, according to a Presidential Administration's release.
"President Klaus Iohannis has reconfirmed Romania's commitment to supporting the European option, modernization and democratic transformation of the Republic of Moldova, in order to generate direct benefits to improve the lives of its citizens. In this respect, the President of Romania pointed out that the pro-European commitment of the Republic of Moldova and the irreversible character of the reforms made for this purpose are essential," says the Presidential Administration.
At the same time, the Romanian president stressed the importance of good strategic communication both in the relationship with the European Union and with the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, in order to explain the reform efforts and the benefits of getting closer to the EU and the concrete results obtained in this process.
In his turn, Prime Minister Pavel Filip especially thanked President Iohannis for the constant and substantial support given by our country to the European path of the Republic of Moldova and assured him of the decision of the authorities in Chisinau to continue the process of coming closer to the European Union and to continue the reform efforts in a European spirit, based on the Association Agreement, including during the period up to the parliamentary elections in the Republic of Moldova.
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova expressed his special interest in the continuation of the bilateral interconnection projects, especially in the energy and transport sectors.
