President Klaus Iohannis Tuesday had a bilateral meeting with the King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Abdullah II, on the sidelines of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly, on which occasion the former reiterated his invitation to the latter to pay a visit to Romania next year, a press release of the Presidential Administration informs.
"During the meeting, Romania's president reiterated the invitation extended to the King of Jordan to pay a visit to our country next year, an invite the acceptance of which was reconfirmed with pleasure and interest by His Majesty,' the Presidential Administration shows.
"The Romanian president and the King of Jordan appreciated the excellent character of the political bilateral relations, the meeting proving a good opportunity to talk about concrete ways to deepen the bilateral relations, with emphasis on the economic dimension, wish voiced by both high dignitaries. Thus President Klaus Iohannis brought to mind the enhanced potential for collaboration in this area. In this respect it was discussed the organisation of the second edition of the Romanian-Jordanian Economic Forum in 2019 in Bucharest. Moreover the two high expressed their appreciation for the special cooperation that exists in the medical and educational fields, as well as the potential for development therein," the release specifies.
The president underscored the special role Jordan has in the region, appreciating the balanced foreign policy and its efforts to promote regional stability in a troublesome and complex environment.
In his turn, Jordan's King voiced his appreciation for the Romanian community in the kingdom, as well as its contribution to the development of the Jordanian society.
The two high dignitaries also tackled topical subjects on the UN and international agenda and pointed out the need to strengthen cooperation both regionally and globally, through a coordinated and comprehensive response, in view of more efficiently handling regional security challenges. At the same time, the two high-ranking officials talked about the opportunities presented by Romania's exercising the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first semester of 2019, President Iohannis highlighting our country's availability to pursue action in this quality in view of consolidating the relationship between the EU and Jordan.
President Klaus Iohannis also had talks with his Cypriot counterpart, Nicos Anastasiades on Tuesday on the sidelines of 73rd session of the UN GA and participated, alongside Romania's delegation formed by Foreign Affairs Minister Teodor Melescanu, Deputy Prime Minister for the Implementation of Romania's Strategic partnerships Ana Birchall, presidential advisors Bogdan Aurescu and Andrei Muraru, Romania's Ambassador with the UN Ion Jinga, in the opening of the high-level end of the talks within the 73rd session of the UN GA. On this occasion the US President, Donald Trump held a speech.
