Academician Ioan-Aurel Pop, re-elected on Tuesday for a new term as president of the Romanian Academy, says that the trust placed in him by the members of the General Assembly represents a great responsibility, giving also assurances that the institution's strategic projects will continue.
"The re-election was difficult for me, first of all the decision to run, because it entails a huge responsibility. The presidency of the Romanian Academy is an exceptional responsibility. It is therefore a special honor my colleagues confirmed to me, but it is also a great responsibility on my shoulders and I hope to be able to deliver and respond to the trust with which they surrounded me," Ioan-Aurel Pop declared for AGERPRES.
He specified that the Academy's strategic projects will continue during his new term, as will support to the youth.
"There are strategic projects of the Romanian Academy which carry on regarding scientific research, the consecration of the most important values, the award of doctoral and habilitation degrees to the best candidates. The Romanian Academy carries along its strategic guidelines. We also have novelties, such as youth support, the Academy has connections to the students. The Secretary General, Academician Dumitrache promoted the idea of rewarding young people, encouraging them. Young pupils turn towards the Romanian Academy, and the best ones are offered scholarships, they are encouraged to become eminent students, to study to the highest possible extent in Romania and then join the researchers in the Academy's institutes," said Pop.
A corresponding member of the Romanian Academy since 2001 in the Department of Historical Sciences and Archeology and a full member since 2010, Professor Ioan-Aurel Pop served as president of the country's highest scientific and cultural institution between 2018 - 2022, following the elections held on April 5, 2018.
