PNL: Coalition parties decide Finance Ministry to publish draft budget by 10 March

Parties in the governing coalition and representatives of the parliamentary group of national minorities decided at Monday's meeting that the Finance Ministry will publish the draft 2026 state budget by Tuesday at the latest. The draft is expected to be adopted by the government this week and then sent to parliament, the National Liberal Party (PNL) announced.

'The parties forming the governing coalition and representatives of the national minorities' group decided at today's meeting [9 March, editor's note] that the Finance Ministry will publish the draft budget by tomorrow [10 March, editor's note] at the latest. The main benchmarks of the 2026 state budget included in the draft to be published are: a record level of investment for 2026 - 165.8 billion lei - over 8% of GDP (an increase of 27 billion lei compared with 2025, when investments stood at 138 billion lei); an additional 9 billion lei in resources available to local administrative units (UATs) through amounts collected from local taxes and duties and transfers from the state budget; estimated budget revenues and expenditures - total revenues of 738 billion lei, or 36.1% of GDP (cash), total expenditures of 865 billion lei, or 42.3% of GDP (cash); budget deficit - 127.7 billion lei, or 6.2% of GDP (cash),' PNL said in a statement.

According to the liberals, the coalition decided that the final version of the budget will be adopted at a government meeting this week and then in parliament.

PSD chairman Sorin Grindeanu said before the meeting that if no consensus is reached, another meeting on the subject could be organised.

He also announced that the party's National Political Council will meet on Sunday to decide whether social-democrats will vote for the 2026 budget law in parliament.
