Senators held a moment of silence on Monday on the occasion of the Day of Anti-Communist Political Prisoners from the period 1944-1989.
"It is the Day of Anti-Communist Political Prisoners from the period 1944-1989. This day was officially established by Law 247/2011 to honor the memory of those who opposed the totalitarian communist regime. Please let us hold a moment of silence in memory of all those who lost their lives honoring and defending Romania," said Senate Speaker Mircea Abrudean.
According to Law 247/2011, March 9 is declared the Day of Anti-Communist Political Prisoners from the period 1944-1989, which in the Christian-Orthodox calendar is the Day of Commemoration of the Holy Martyrs.
The Parliament, the President of Romania, the Government, the central and local public administration authorities organize events to commemorate this day. The necessary funds allocated for the commemoration of various events of the anti-communist political prisoners from the period 1944-1989 can also be provided from local budgets or from the budget of public authorities and institutions.
