Prime minister Viorica Dancila welcomed on Tuesday the Montenegrin Foreign Affairs minister Srdjan Darmanovic, on an official visit to the Victoria Palace in Bucharest, on which occasion she stressed the major importance of Montenegro's clear strategic option of join NATO and reconfirmed Romania's support for this country's integration within the European Union, a gov't release says.
The visit of Srdjan Darmanovic takes place exactly one year since Montenegro's joining NATO, "an objective Romania has actively advocated the long of the negotiations."
The Romanian Premier emphasised the major importance of Montenegro's clear strategic option, which also reconfirms the Open Door Policy's validity in the perspective of the NATO Summit due this year, the release informs.
The meeting highlighted the very good level of the bilateral relation and its sustained development potential. Both sides stressed the importance of encouraging and capitalizing on the identified opportunities to diversify and deepen the cooperation fields, in particular the economic cooperation," the release adds.
Moreover, as regards Montenegro's European path, the Romanian Premier reconfirmed the strong support for Montenegro's joining the EU based on own merits, with the firm accomplishment of all integration criteria.
The head of the Romanian gov't stressed that the enlargement policy will be on the agenda of Romania's Presidency of the EU Council in the first half of 2019, adding that during its tenure Romania will be an active, substantial partner in advocating the Western Balkans' states," the release informs.
