Prime minister Viorica Dancila on a working visit in Brussels met on Tuesday with the Chairman of the European People's Party group, Manfred Weber, whom she had "an open exchange of opinions" with regarding the situation in Romania, a release by the Romanian Gov't sent to AGERPRES informs.
The meeting was also attended by European Funds minister Rovana Plumb and Romanian MEP Dan Nica.
The gov't says that during the talks the current files on the European agenda were approached, in the view of the taking over by Romania of the Presidency of the Council of European Union starting with 1 January 2019. At the same time, the premier talked about the stage of the preparations carried out by the Bucharest authorities "assuring upon the tight cooperation with the European Parliament with a view to finalising the legislative files and ensuring a successful mandate," the release adds.
Premier Dancila has had "an open exchange of opinions with her interlocutor regarding the situation in Romania, in the perspective of the debate due in the European Parliament at the beginning of October, stressing upon the availability of the Romanian gov't and her own for an open dialogue with the European bodies' officials on all of the issues of interest," the gov't release says.
The premier affirmed on this occasion "the dedication of the Romanian gov't to the democratic values and principles." Moreover Dancila said that the answer to the challenges the European project is currently confronted with could be learned by showing solidarity among the member states and not by creating new cleavages inside the Union, the release says.
