PM Bolojan meets in Berlin representatives of German Chamber of Commerce and Industry: Romania - interested in new investments

AGERPRES special correspondent Daniel Florea reports: Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan began his two-day official visit to Berlin on Tuesday, with a meeting with representatives of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK), in the context of developing economic and sectoral cooperation between the two countries.

According to a Government's press release, during the discussions, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of the Romanian-German economic relationship, pointing out that Germany has been Romania's most important trading partner and the main foreign investor in the Romanian economy for many years.

At the same time, the Prime Minister indicated that Romania remains interested in attracting new German investments, in a stable and predictable economic framework.

In this context, the expansion and diversification of German investments in sectors with high added value, such as "infrastructure, energy, agriculture and the food industry, research and innovation, were discussed."

"The discussions also aimed at expanding the access of Romanian companies to the German market and to other states in the network of chambers of commerce coordinated by DIHK, present in over 90 countries. The Romanian side expressed its interest in more active promotion of Romanian products in Germany, as well as in the involvement of Romanian companies in infrastructure modernization and expansion projects," the press release states.

The DIHK representatives highlighted the role of the international network of chambers of commerce in facilitating cooperation between Romanian and German companies and showed openness to the development of new economic partnerships, in the context of the new European trade policies, the cited source specifies.

Another chapter of the discussions was dedicated to cooperation in the field of defense and regional security.

"The German side appreciated Romania's role in maintaining regional stability, as well as the rapprochement of positions between Romania and Germany in political, economic and defense terms. Cooperation in the defense industry, including through the SAFE program, was analyzed both from the perspective of joint acquisitions and production. Collaboration with German companies in the field, such as Rheinmetall, was mentioned as an opportunity for technology transfer and for the development of the production and equipment capacities of the Romanian Army," the press release reads.

Another important topic concerned the training and qualification of the workforce.

According to the cited source, the contribution of German companies and the Romanian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the development of dual education and vocational training programs was appreciated, as well as the interest in expanding them in areas such as industry, energy and defense.

In the economic field, the Romanian side presented the measures adopted to increase budget revenues, reduce public spending and prioritize investments, in the context of efforts to reduce the budget deficit, while maintaining a favorable investment climate.

In the same context, the German side appreciated the progress made by Romania in the process of accession to the OECD, constantly supported by the DIHK through its network of chambers of commerce.

The delegation accompanying Prime Minister Bolojan on his visit to Germany includes MP Ovidiu Gant, Deputy Prime Minister Radu Miruta, Minister of National Defense, Head of the Prime Minister's Chancellery, Mihai Jurca, Chief of the Defense Staff, Gheorghita Vlad, Secretary of State in the Prime Minister's Chancellery, Dragos Hotea, and State Counselor in the Prime Minister's Chancellery, Raul Gutin.
