Greek businessman Ivan Savvidis, owner of the PAOK Thessaloniki football club coached by Romanian Razvan Lucescu, issued a press statement on Tuesday following the tragedy in which seven supporters of the Greek club were killed in a traffic accident in Timis County, Romania, the club announced on its official website.

''An unspeakable tragedy has knocked on our door today. I am devastated by the unjust loss of young people, fans of our beloved team, who traveled to stand by our PAOK,'' the club's owner said.

''I mourn with the families and millions of our compatriots. May God rest their souls,'' Savvidis also said.

''These children, the children of PAOK, are our children, they are members of a large family. And we do everything for our family and we do not leave anyone behind. My thoughts are with their loved ones. I pray that everything goes well for those who were injured and are fighting a critical battle in these hours," Ivan Savvidis concluded.

Greek President Konstantinos Tassoulas also expressed his sadness and offered condolences following the tragic accident in Romania. Tassoulas said he was "deeply saddened" by the deaths of the Thessaloniki club's supporters and described the loss of life as "very disturbing", while wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed his "deep shock" upon learning about the accident, which claimed the lives of seven fans.

"I was deeply shocked to learn of the tragic accident in Romania that claimed the lives of seven of our young compatriots. The Greek Government and our Embassy cooperate directly with the local authorities, providing all possible support," Mitsotakis wrote on Facebook.

"In these difficult times, together with all Greek nationals, I express my most sincere condolences to the families of the victims and to the PAOK family. With the shared wish that the injured make a speedy recovery. Our thoughts are with them," the Greek prime minister added.

Seven people died and three were injured on Tuesday in a traffic accident on National Road DN 6 in Timis County; all were supporters of the PAOK Thessaloniki football team, coached by Romanian Razvan Lucescu, according to the Greek Embassy in Romania.

The minibus, registered in Greece, was heading to France, where PAOK is scheduled to play Olympique Lyonnais on Thursday in the final round of the Europa League.
