Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan met at Victoria Governmental Palace on Thursday representatives of E.ON Romania SA and E.ON Energie Romania SA to discuss payment claims submitted by energy suppliers.
Those attending the meeting included German Ambassador to Romania Angela Ganninger, head of the economic section of the German Embassy to Romania Sandrina Kobinger, E.ON Romania SA President Volker Raffel and E.ON Energie Romania SA Director General Claudia Griech, agerpres reports.
According to a Government press release, the discussions focused on streamlining the process of verification and validation by the National Energy Regulatory Authority of the payment claims submitted by energy suppliers and on increasing the pace of payments to them of the amounts representing the difference between energy procurement costs and the capped prices for electricity and natural gas.
'Under the energy price capping and compensation mechanism, these amounts were initially borne by suppliers and are to be subsequently reimbursed by the authorities,' the press release reads.
Prime Minister Bolojan said that measures are being taken at government level to streamline the procedures for validating payment claims and to ensure the necessary funds to settle the outstanding amounts owed to energy suppliers under the price compensation mechanism, the source added.
'The mechanism for compensating and capping final electricity prices was applied until 1 July 2025, while the mechanism for capping final natural gas prices will remain in force until 31 March 2026. In this context, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and the representatives of E.ON Romania also discussed aspects related to energy sector regulations, in view of the liberalisation of natural gas prices starting on 1 April 2026, after the expiry of the final natural gas price capping and compensation scheme,' the release also shows.
At the same time, E.ON representatives also raised issues related to the mechanisms necessary to ensure the proper functioning of the wholesale energy market.
Another topic discussed at the meeting at Victoria Palace concerned investments for the expansion and modernisation of gas networks, given that Romania aims to increase production capacity, according to the quoted source.
In addition to Prime Minister Bolojan, those attending the meeting at Victoria Palace included National Energy Regulatory Authority President George Niculescu and Secretary of State with the Prime Minister's Chancellery Dragos Hotea.
