President of the Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP) Adrian Tutuianu declared on Wednesday that sanctions for breaches of electoral campaign rules must be updated and that unified electoral logistics are needed, with standardized polling stations, booths and ballot boxes.

"I will meet with county councils and mayors' associations to create unified logistics: the same booths, ballot boxes and polling station layouts. I would like to replace booths with curtains and introduce transparent ballot boxes, possibly with mechanisms to count ballots, ensuring greater transparency," Tutuianu stated.

He also called for simplified and uniform minutes for recording results, noting that current forms differ between elections and are overly complicated.

On sanctions, he pointed out inconsistencies and outdated fines: "We have different penalties for the same acts in various regulations, and some amounts are very small."

Tutuianu further highlighted anomalies in the Electoral Register, which lists nearly 134,000 people aged 90 -9 9 and over 14,000 aged 100+, many of whom are likely deceased. He said collaboration with local authorities is needed to update records, especially for deaths abroad that were not communicated.

The AEP will also propose reducing the number of electoral record categories and using the Electoral Register as the single reference document.
