The project of the Oradea-Bekescsaba 400 kV aerial power line worth over 83 million lei (rd 18 million euro) was unlocked after 10 years, and the Romanian gov't has adopted a Decision that allows the finalisation of the expropriation procedures, on Friday announced the The National Power Grid Company Transelectrica, the project's developer, in a press release.
"This HG [Government Decision, ed. n.] allows the finalisation of the 400 kV Aerial Power Line (EAL) Oradea - Bekescsaba, a project in preservation for 10 years. It is about a huge investment, worth over 83 million lei, updated value in 2014. The completion of this investment has a crucial importance for the functioning safety of the National Power System, and the gov't has understood it," the Transelectrica Board of Directors informs in the said release.
According to the company, the investment has been stalled since 2008 due to the expropriations, but once the adoption by the gov't of this decision, on the weekly sitting of 10 May, these procedures that are under way for the private properties placed on the expropriation corridor of the AEL 400 kV Oradea - Bekescsaba national interest public utility, will allow for their finalisation.
"The commissioning of the Oradea-Nadab segment and thus the finalisation of EAL 400 kV Oradea - Bekescsaba contributes to closing the 400 kV ring of the country's electric transportation network, Romania's priority goal. Moreover, the existence of this line will make us avoid certain costs regarding the northwest area's crowding, which last year parked at rd 39,000 lei in March, and rd 160,000 lei in November. At the same time, by urgently completing the works at EAL 400 kV Oradea - Bekescsaba, the risk of affecting the operation safety of the national power grid will be eliminated. This risk is higher and generated by the potential unavailability of the interconnection line between Romania and Ukraine (EAL 400 kV Rosiori - Mukacevo), a situation in which maintaining the functioning safety of the country's northwest area would become difficult and expensive." the Transelectrica release says.
Romania currently has a mere 7 pct interconnection capacity of the power installed in the national power grid (SEN), against the 10 pct target that is forecast in the European regulations for 2020, this aspect being notified to the European Commission. The commissioning of the EAL 400 kV Oradea Sud - Nadab will take us closer to the European target, Transelectrica adds.
