The gross average monthly wage stood at 4,449 lei in August, 1.4 percent lower than in July, and the net one was 2,669 lei, dropping from the previous month by 39 lei (-1.4 percent), according to a press release of the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
In August 2018, for most of the activities in the economic sector, the net average wage was smaller than in July 2018, as a result of bonuses having been granted in the previous months (holiday quarterly, annual bonuses or for special performance), in-kind benefits and cash aid, benefits from the net profit and other funds (including meal coupons and gift coupons). Furthermore, the drops of the net average monthly wage were caused by not meeting production quota or by lower revenues (depending on contracts/projects, or as a result of vacations when meal coupons or other wage benefits are not granted).
The most significant decreases of the net average monthly wage were recorded in the coal mining sector - 17.1 percent, between 5 and 8 percent in the road transport vehicle, trailers and semi-trailers manufacturing, warehousing and transport-related activities, other industrial activities, production and supply of electric and thermal energy, gas, hot water and air conditioning, insurance activities, reinsurance and pension funds (with the exception of those from the public social security system), the extraction of metal ores, manufacturing of rubber and plastic objects, between 3.5 percent and 5 percent in financial intermediation (except for insurance and pension funds), leather tanning and dressing (including the manufacturing of luggage and leather goods, straps and shoes, furs preparation and dyeing), tobacco products manufacturing, water collection, treatment and supply, other services in information technology (including other computer services), auxiliary financial intermediation, insurance activities and pension funds.
The most significant growths of the net average monthly wage were 5.2 percent in the telecommunications field, namely 4.9 percent in editing activities, between 2 and 3.5 percent in the manufacturing of basic pharmaceuticals and preparations, beverage manufacturing, coke and oil product manufacturing, the manufacturing of chemical substances and products, real-estate transactions, water and air transportation.
Net average monthly wage goes down 1.4 percent in August, to 2,669 lei
