The number of new car registrations in Romania reached 88,805 units in October, in the first ten months of 2017, up almost 17 percent from to the same period of the previous year, as evidenced by statistics with the Driving Licences and Vehicle Registration Directorate (DRPCIV), researched by AGERPRES.
On the other hand, second-hand car registrations continued at a very high level, reaching 426,029 units, January through October, up nearly 70 percent from the first ten months of 2016.
According to DRPCIV, new car registrations in October 2017 were standing at 10,036 units, up 26.22 percent year-over-year.
Also in October 2017, 47,605 used cars were registered in Romania, which represents a jump by 70.30 percent from October 2016's 27,954 units.
On the other hand, DRPCIV data show that in October, 13,729 new vehicles were registered in Romania, which represents an increase by 23.86 percent from October 2016.
Romania's national motor vehicle fleet in 2016 by 6.21 percent compared with the previous year, exceeding 7 million vehicles, of which over 1.25 million were registered in Bucharest.
Thus, out of the 1.253 million cars registered in Bucharest (about 18 percent of the total), just over one million units were automobiles. In the capital city, most of the vehicles were in the 6-10 year age group (346,594 units) as of late 2016, followed by those in the 11-15 year group (301,648 units) and those with more than 20 years of wear (195,666 units).
The number of new cars (0-2 years old) in Bucharest at the end of 2016 was standing at 134,322 units, with 104,068 of them being automobiles.
Nationwide, out of the total of 7,010,608 vehicles running on national roads at the end of 2016, 5.47 million (78 percent) were automobiles, up more than 6 percent from the end of 2015, when there were 5.15 million such units.
At the end of 2016, 3,336 million diesel vehicles (including 2,119 million automobiles) were running on Romanian roads, while 3,586 million motor vehicles had gasoline engines, of which 3,339 million were automobiles.
