The Romanian authorities will work together with the European Parliament so as to place the citizen at the core of the European decision-making process, the Minister Delegate or European Affairs Victor Negrescu said on Tuesday, adding that our country wishes to complete as many legislative files as it can during its Presidency at the Council of the European Union, informs a release by the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) sent to AGERPRES.
Victor Negrescu had a meeting in Brussels on Tuesday with the European Parliament's Secretary General Klaus Welle.
Consultations focused on the preparations carried out by Romania with a view to taking over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union as of 1 January 2019, the Minister Delegate unveiling the efforts made by the Romanian gov't of late and bringing to mind the approach lines of the Presidency under the aspect of its objective to place the citizen at the core of the decision-making process, says the release.
The two dignitaries have also tackled the future Presidency from the outlook of the complex European context in the first half of 2019, recalling the challenges with regard to the next European election, the closing of the Brexit process and the negotiations on the new multiannual financial budget and the future strategic action framework post-2019.
According to MAE, Negrescu reiterated Romania's wish to act alongside the Member States which advocate "the European project's reinvigoration and strengthening in a positive, ambitious manner."
"In accordance with the responsibility we shall have at European level, we wish to act together for the EU to promote those policies that directly meet the European citizens' expectations. To do that, we have decided we shall work with the European Parliament to place the citizen at the core of the European decision-making process. As a consequence, we are set forth that the Romania Presidency of the Council of the European Union finalise as many legislative files as possible through a constructive, well structured dialogue with the European legislative," said Victor Negrescu.
Romania will assume 1 January to 30 June 2019, the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
