The national platform for reducing the risk of disasters has become operational on Tuesday, once with its first working meeting, attended by the Secretary of State with the Ministry of Interior, Raed Arafat, the head of the Department for Emergency Situations.
The national platform for reducing risk to disasters is an advisory body made of representatives of the ministries and public institutions with responsibilities in managing the various risk types, but also NGOs, cultural and scientific institutions, trade unions and other representatives of the civil society.
According to a press release of MAI, the purpose of this platform is to reduce mortality and the number of people impacted by disasters, reduce economic loss and damages on critical infrastructure.
Another objective that is very important is to increase people's access to the early warning systems in case such disaster occurs.
By becoming operational the platform ensures that Romania meets the obligations assumed at the World Conference for Reducing Disasters held in Japan, as a signatory part in the Statement of Hyogo and the alignment to the good practices of the 83 states with such national platforms.
