National Liberal Party (PNL) chairman Ludovic Orban said on Thursday at private broadcaster B1 TV that the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) has demonstrated by abstaining from the vote on the censure motion that it wants the Government to continue its activity.
UDMR's attitude is contrary to opinion polls according to which only 4 per cent of the Hungarian electorate trusts Social Democratic party (PSD) chairman Liviu Dragnea, added Orban.
"Things are clear, UDMR cannot mislead the public opinion, their positioning was very clear. Today they backed the Dancila Government to continue its work. According to the polls released by the UDMR president, Liviu Dragnea's popularity rate is 4 per cent among the Hungarian electorate. If any UDMR MP tells me that the electorate who sent them to Parliament wants them to back Dragnea, I will consider it a bad joke," said Ludovic Orban.
"Clearly, for two years, UDMR, which says it has a parliamentary collaboration protocol with PSD, has been supporting this Government. And it is not true that they have only a parliamentary collaboration protocol, we have identified some 40 positions that they hold in the state administration structure at the level of secretaries and under-secretaries of state, presidents of agencies and directors. They have a representation at the level of executive power even if not at ministerial level," Ludovic Orban said.
