President Klaus Iohannis on Tuesday said that he wishes Romania could have an efficient Presidency of the Council of the European Union, pointing out that the Government has the obligation to make sure that this mandate will be an exercise through which our country will win in its relations with the European bodies, with the EU Member States and with the external partners.
"The period left until the end of this year is paramount to building a consistent, realistic, credible mandate of the future Presidency. This is not easy task. We have to prove a deep knowledge of the files and of the procedures as well, and yet above all we shall have to prove that our pro-European commitment is beyond any doubt. I wish Romania will perform an efficient Presidency of the Council of the EU. The Government has the obligation to make sure that carrying out the Presidency will be an exercise through which Romania will win in its relations with the European bodies, with the Union's Member States and with the external partners," Iohannis asserted at the reunion with the heads of diplomatic missions and consuls general of our country, who participate in the Annual Reunion of the Romanian Diplomatic Corps.
