Freight traffic at the border with Serbia is disrupted by hauliers' protests in this country, but passenger car crossings are operating normally, the Inspectorate General of the Border Police (IGPF) announced.
"In the context of the launch of protest actions by freight transport operators on the territory of the Republic of Serbia, which affect the transit of freight vehicles through the Jimbolia, Moravita and Portile de Fier I border crossing points, the Timisoara Territorial Inspectorate of the Border Police has ordered a series of operational measures to manage the situation. Border police officers are permanently monitoring the operational situation, maintaining contact with Serbian border authorities and other competent institutions and adopting operational measures to ease traffic flow, depending on developments on the ground," the IGPF press office informed on Tuesday.
At the same time, additional measures have been ordered to inform road users, in view of reducing waiting times and preventing congestion.
"With regard to the Entry/Exit System (EES), this is a European external border management system implemented at European Union level, and the Romanian Border Police enforces its provisions in accordance with the applicable European and national legislation, within the scope of its legal responsibilities," the quoted source said.
The police recommend that road users consult the Romanian Border Police's Traffic Online application and the institution's official communication channels for updated information on waiting times, use alternative border crossing points or alternative routes where possible, plan their journey in advance and take into account possible delays in the processing of border formalities.
