Romanian tennis player Simona Halep, WTA No. 5, qualified to the semifinals of the tournament in Wuhan (China), the WTA's Premier 5 category, with prizes worth 2.28 million US Dollars, after defeating American Madison Keys in two sets 6-4 6-1 on Thursday.
Halep (24 years old), 4th seed of this competition, secured a 117,770 US Dollars cheque and 350 WTA points due to this victory. She imposed after an hour and ten minutes against Keys, ranked 8th in the WTA.
In the penultimate event, the Romanian representative will play against the winner of the event between British Johanna Konta (WTA No. 11) and Czech player Petra Kvitova (ranked 14th).
The qualification in the semifinals of the tournament in Wuhan assures the participation of Simona Halep, for the third consecutive year, in the Champions Tournament to take place in Singapore, between 23-30 October, where the best eight players of the world will participate. AGERPRES
