Foreign Affairs Minister Teodor Melescanu brought to mind the importance Romania gives to research and innovation, on Wednesday, upon welcoming Secretary General of the "Alexander von Humboldt" Foundation in Romania, Dr. Enno Aufderheide, in Bucharest in the context of the "Humboldt" Club Romania having organised the conference with the topic "World War and Beyond: Human Tragedies, Social Challenges, Scientific and Cultural Responses" (17-19 September), informs a MAE press release sent to AGERPRES.
The head of the Romanian diplomacy thanked the Secretary General for involving the "Alexander von Humboldt" Foundation in promoting excellency in the domain by offering scholarships to Romanian researchers and research institutes, reads the release.
The two dignitaries discussed about the development perspectives in education, culture and research and innovation, as well as within the European initiatives. The Romanian official hailed the collaboration between the German Linguistics Institute (Institut fur Deutsche Sprache), the Bucharest University, "Mihai Draganescu" Reasearch Institute for Artificial Intelligence in Bucharest and the Theoretical Information Technology Institute in Iasi, in carrying out the Romanian Academy's priority project - CoRoLa, financed by the "Alexander von Humboldt" Foundation. Moreover, Teodor Melescanu voiced his satisfaction for the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award granted this year to Romanian researcher Dragos Calma, with the Babes-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca and University College Dublin, for his paper on medieval Neoplatonism.

A priority project of the Romanian Academy - CoRoLa is a project funded as an institutional partnership programme by the Humboldt Foundation with the 57,000 euro amount for three years, supporting the building of the reference computational Corpus of the Romanian language (www.corola.racai.ro ) and its use with an analysis technology of the Institut fur Deutsche Sprache, Mannheim, based on the idea of reuniting all European languages corpuses under a unique analysis and operational tool, capable of managing big data (EuReCo).
