On the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, Romanian Foreign Minister Lazar Comanescu met with his Cuban counterpart Eduardo Rodriguez Parrilla to suggest a new economic cooperation agreement between the two countries, Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) announces.
According to a MAE press statement released on Thursday, the two officials talked about strengthening bilateral relations. Both Comanescu and Parrilla expressed wishes for a more dynamic political as well as sectorial dialogue.
The head of Romanian diplomacy also met with his South African and Indian counterparts, as well as with the secretary general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
"Talk with the Minister for International Relations from South Africa Maite Nkoana-Mashabane focused on deepening political dialogue between the two countries, emphasizing economic, cultural and cooperation in fighting migration, as well as cooperation in the UN. At the end of the meeting, the two officials signed a protocol establishing consultations between the Romanian Government and South Africa's Government," reads the statement.
During the meeting with India's State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shri M. J. Akbar, interest was expressed in strengthening the extended partnership, especially through intensifying political relations and amplifying trade and economic cooperation.
"In this respect, they emphasized the importance of getting the chambers of commerce of the two countries involved in facilitating direct contacts between business people in Romania and India. The Romanian minister also emphasized the cooperation potential in areas such as education and IT where youth in both countries excel," says MAE.
During their meeting, Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Iyad Ameen Madani and Comanescu pointed to the need to increase international efforts to fight terrorism and religious extremism, preserve tolerance and intercultural dialogue as a long-term measure in this respect, according to Agerpres.
