The European Commission has conveyed that Romania must reprioritize its investments in order to fall within the budgetary limits assumed for the years 2025-2026, a period in which the pressure on the state budget will be significant, announced the Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare.
"Yesterday (Monday, ed.) I discussed with representatives of the European Commission several key points on Romania's economic and budgetary agenda. In this context, the European Commission sent a clear message: Romania must reprioritize its investments in order to fall within the budgetary limits assumed for the years 2025-2026, a period in which the pressure on the state budget will be significant," the minister wrote on his Facebook page.
According to him, the main topics discussed were: the start of the internal analysis and consultation process regarding the budget rectification; the stage of the renegotiation of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and how the projects currently under negotiation can be adjusted; prioritizing investments financed from grants and loans, in order to remain on the assumed fiscal trajectory in the coming period, when the pressures on the state budget will be significant.
"We argued before the Commission for the inclusion in the grant component of some essential projects for Romania: the Ministry of Development's projects for building rehabilitation and energy efficiency - these have a major contribution to reducing energy consumption, reducing the costs borne by the population, but also to meeting environmental objectives; two important sections of the Moldovan Highway (A7) - A7 will contribute to a significant development of the eastern region of the country", explained Alexandru Nazare.
He emphasized that discussions continue in parallel with the teams from the Ministry of Investments and European Projects, and the Ministry of Finance remains the guarantor of meeting the macroeconomic objectives and the assumed fiscal-budgetary trajectory.
The Minister of Finance also added that the discussions with the EC representatives also targeted the additional measures envisaged in the second and third packages of fiscal reforms, in order to consolidate Romania's stable path until the next Council evaluation in October.
"It is fundamental, during this period, to take concrete steps towards restoring Romania's credibility with international partners," Nazare pointed out.
