Kian Soltani, described by The Times as a "remarkable cellist," will perform at the Palace Hall on Friday starting at 19:30, together with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Petr Popelka, as part of the George Enescu International Festival, according to the event's website.
The concert programme includes Antonín Dvorák's Cello Concerto in B minor, Op. 104, and Symphony No. 6 in D major, Op. 60.
* At the Romanian Athenaeum, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Lahav Shani (musical direction and piano), will perform starting at 16:30.
The programme includes Intermezzi for Strings, Op. 12 by George Enescu, Piano Concerto No. 2 in F major, Op. 102, by Dmitri Shostakovich, Symphony No. 3 in E-flat major, Op. 55 'Eroica' by Ludwig van Beethoven.
Under the theme 'Bach in the Jungle,' starting at 20:00 at MINA - Museum of New Immersive Art - Bucharest, Leticia Moreno (violin), Claudio Constantini (bandoneon), Uxia Martinez-Botana (double bass) and Matan Porat (piano) will present a programme featured the previous day:
- Johann Sebastian Bach - Sonata No. 4 in C minor, BWV 1017 (arranged for bandoneon and violin)
- Heitor Villa-Lobos - Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5
- [Bolivia, 18th century] - Chiquitana Sonata No. 4 (Musical Archive of Chiquitos)
- Johann Sebastian Bach - Partita No. 2 in D minor for solo violin, BWV 1004: Chaconne
- Astor Piazzolla - The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires
* Also at the Romanian Athenaeum, at 22:30, the renowned ensemble Accademia Bizantina and the Purcell Choir, under the musical direction of acclaimed harpsichordist Ottavio Dantone, will present the baroque opera 'Il trionfo della fama, serenata per musica' in one act by Francesco Bartolomeo Conti.
Soloists include: Benedetta Mazzucato - Genio (contralto), Sophie Rennert - Gloria (mezzo-soprano), Maximiliano Danta - Fama (countertenor), Martin Vanberg - Destino (tenor), Riccardo Novaro - Valore (baritone).
Partner: Haydneum - Hungarian Centre for Early Music, supported by the Office of the Prime Minister (Hungary) and the Bethlen Gábor Fund Management.
The 27th edition of the George Enescu International Festival is taking place in Bucharest and across the country until 21 September. This year's theme is 'Celebrations,' marking 70 years since the death of the great composer.
