Deputy Prime Minister Ana Birchall says the Holocaust is living proof that the unimaginable can become a nightmarish reality and the sad Holocaust Remembrance Day in Romania represents an occasion to honour the memory of people who lost their lives because of the Holocaust, both in Romania and across the world.
"The Holocaust is living proof that the unimaginable can become a nightmarish reality and that the human nature can be not only sublimely good but also terrifyingly easy to be won over by evil. The date of 9 October represents an occasion for all of us to commemorate the loss of millions of lives and to teach those around us about the unprecedented spread of hatred back then so as to make sure that such abominable deeds can never happen again. Anti-Semitism, totalitarianism, xenophobia and racial discrimination do not belong among us today and we must make sure that the world we leave as legacy to our children is a world of tolerance and good coexistence," Ana Birchall wrote on Tuesday on Facebook.
The Deputy Prime Minister thus voiced her full compassion and solidarity with the Jewish people and those that suffered from such a terrible event, that left deep scars in the souls and consciousness of Jews everywhere.
