Constantin Brancusi's 1902 Écorché will be exhibited at the Art Galleries in Targu Jiu on February 19, marking the 150th anniversary of the sculptor's birth, as part of the exhibition "Brancusi - Beginnings".

The work stands approximately 2.20 metres tall.

"The Écorché (...), his first work, will go on display at the Art Galleris. The original birth certificate of Constantin Brancusi and other original documents provided by the County Service of the National Archives will also be exhibited. For the first time in Târgu Jiu, we will present the so-called birth certificate of the Endless Column - the original photograph on which Brancusi drew the Column. As for the Écorché, there are five copies in Romania; we also have one in Târgu Jiu, at the University, but we did not want to display a reproduction. We are bringing the Écorché exhibited in Timisoara, owned by the 'Carol I' National College in Craiova. Not being part of a museum collection, the paperwork was easier to prepare. (...) It is valued at almost 700,000 euros. (...) Brancusi was still a student at the Faculty of Arts in Bucharest and had a personal connection with Dr. Dimitrie Gerota, professor of anatomy, who commissioned him to create this Écorché, 'The Skinned', as Brancusi initially called it. Such works were needed at the Faculty of Medicine," Targu Jiu deputy mayor Adrian Tudor declared at a press conference on Friday.

To mark the anniversary, the "Constantin Brancusi" Research, Documentation and Promotion Center will open the exhibition "Brancusi Concerns Us All" on February 18 at the Art 360 Pavilion in Targu Jiu.

According to the Center's director, Cornel Mihalache, the exhibition offers a chronological and thematic journey through Brancusi's life and work, conceived as a visual narrative built from archival documents, photographs, stills, film fragments and the artist's own maxims.

The exhibition, aimed at both the general public and specialists, provides a documentary and interpretative framework dedicated to one of Romania's most internationally recognized artists.

A version of the same exhibition, in a different layout, will be presented at Romania's National Museum of Art (MNAR), in the Kretulescu Hall, between February 12 and 22, and in Craiova, at the Museum of the Romanian Book and Exile, between February 22 and 28.

On February 19, the Art 360 Pavilion will also host a concert by the Ploiesti Philharmonic Quartet and a screening of the film 'Brancusi On the Path of Souls'.
