According to the quoted source, at household level, the total average monthly income accounted for 1,589 lei per capita, with the total average expenditures per person standing at 1,362 lei per capita.
According to the INS, total incomes accounting on average for 3,843 lei per month per household and 1,471 lei per head, with incomes in kind accounting for 307 lei monthly per household (118 lei per head). The salaries and the other related incomes represented the most important source of income (67.5 percent of the total income of households).
The INS mentions that the place of residence influences the differences in levels and, especially, those of structure between urban and rural areas.
According to the INS, in terms of total expenditures, households spent the most money on food, non-food goods, services and transfers to public and private administration and to social security budgets, in the form of taxes, contributions, and coverage of such needs related to the production of households (feeding animals and poultry, payment of work for household production, sowing products, veterinary services etc.).
Spending on on investments - intended for the purchase or construction of dwellings, the purchase of land and equipment needed for the production of the household, the purchase of shares etc hold a small share in total household expenditures of only 0.6 percent.
The INS mentions that the place of residence determines some particularities in terms of the size and structure of the total consumption expenditures.
According to the Classification of Individual Consumption According to Purpose (COICOP), food and non-alcoholic beverages accounted on average for 35.2 percent of household consumption in Q 2 2018.
Moreover, the INS also mentions that the total incomes include the sum of cash receipts from different sources of origin for which there is no restitution obligation and income in kind (assessed in lei). Total expenditures include all expenses, regardless of destination and the equivalent of consumption from households' own resources.

The average income of the population accounted for 4,151 lei per household in Q2 2018, while total average expenditures accounted for 3,559 lei per month, according to the data published on Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
