1978 - Inauguration, in Bucharest, of the Museum of Art Collections
1980 - Unveiling, in Calafat, of the Independence Monument, done by sculptor Bucur Pavel. The monument is placed exactly on the spot where, on April 26, 1877, the first cannon salvo was fired, moment that marked the start of the Romanian War of Independence
1991 - Death of Eugen Jebeleanu, poet and translator, member of the Romanian Academy (b. 24 April 1911)
2012 - The Constitutional Court of Romania decides to invalidate the July 29 referendum to dismiss suspended President Traian Basescu, noting that the referendum did not meet the necessary turnout of 50 percent + 1 of the total number of voters in the permanent electoral lists. Traian Basescu resumes constitutional and legal prerogatives as President of Romania
