The financial education programme initiated by the Association of Economic and Social Studies and Forecasts (ASPES) will be extended nationwide from September, according to professor Razvan Catalin Dobrea of the Bucharest School of Economics (ASE).

He told AGERPRES on Wednesday, on the occasion of the conclusion of the programme at the Henri Coanda Collegiate High School of Aeronautics in Bucharest, that the initiative aims to increase the level of education of students, so that they can take on new responsibilities in the financial area.

"The motto from which we started in this programme is the one related to the following statement, namely: Your future begins today! We have focused and configured such a financial education programme, considering that, currently, financial education can be a boost to personal development, professional development and not only, because we think of this programme as an integrated programme, as a programme that constitutes, in fact, the starting point in your career," Dobrea told students.

In his turn, Ionel Florian Lixandru, general school inspector of Bucharest, stressed that the national strategy for financial education outlines the action guidelines from primary education to adult education.

"We want to prepare future citizens who are financially and also fiscally responsible," he said.

Vlad Nicolaescu, coordinator of the Financial Education Department at the Financial Oversight Authority, highlighted the fact that financial education involves setting goals and objectives, as well as financial planning, warning that without goals, without objectives, without careful planning of the "road to success" it is "very complicated for people to get where they want to go."

Eliza Gereanu, an expert at the Ministry of Finance, said that financial education is no longer just "an individual competence", but a component of the economic security of citizens and the resilience of the financial system. She added that a well-informed consumer is better protected against fraud, makes better financial decisions and contributes to the development of a "more stable and prosperous economy".

Lawyer Cornel Tabarta told the students that the lack of financial education can lead to wrong decisions with irreversible consequences, because " lost money can no longer be recovered."

Principal of the Henri Coanda Collegiate High School Coralia Barosan underscored the importance of financial education in the formation of a responsible youth.

The national financial education programme was launched by ASPES on March 9 designed to develop financial skills in young people. The first stage started at the Henri Coanda High School, one of the 15 educational establishments included in the pilot project in Bucharest.

The programme is initiated by ASPES. In the first stage, it brought together university professors, finance specialists and personalities from the business community, who held interactive sessions for students, focused on understanding the basic economic mechanisms and on developing a solid financial culture.
