Defense Minister Radu Miruta said on Monday that the simple motion filed against him is "a fabricated political topic" packaged and delivered as "a propaganda show".

"The motion is not about Romania's defense, the Army, or the truth. The Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) and other opposition colleagues chose to turn a piece of fake news into yet another simple motion against me. Why? Because of a technical, accurate remark about Greenland, taken out of context and spun into false headlines by an entire propaganda machine. A simple motion is an important democratic tool, not a cheap PR toy. Using an invented lie as its basis is not only a waste of time, it insults both the Senate and the people the signatories of the motion claim to represent," Miruta told the Senate plenary.

He added that AUR ignores genuinely important issues such as equipping the Army and supporting reservists and veterans.

"I respect AUR voters as well. And that's why I tell them honestly: ask your representatives if this is all they can do for you - turn a lie into a motion? Write one page of falsehoods against a minister? Is that really the peak of their abilities? Meanwhile, they ignore real topics: how to equip the Army, how to honor those who protect Romania, how to support reservists and veterans, how to manage regional security, just for a few bombastic headlines. And if someone is pushing your buttons to 'influence the direction of SAFE money', let me be clear: you have zero chance. Tell those using you that the billions from SAFE go to equipping the Romanian Army - no friendly companies, no shortcuts, in full transparency, serving national security, not anyone's pockets," the minister said.

Miruta argued that Romania cannot be "fixed" with slogans or AI-generated videos pushed by bots.

"Romania is not only in a tight budgetary moment. It is in a moment of trial, when some want us weak, misinformed, manipulated and divided. Romania will not be repaired with slogans or AI videos. It will not become a superpower overnight if we hide in forests, eat strawberries, drink spring water and call ourselves patriots in words while remaining small in character and deeds," he said.

The minister also clarified his remarks regarding a possible deployment of Romanian troops to Greenland.

"I explained the decision-making sequences in the Romanian state, as regulated by Law 121/2011 on the participation of armed forces in missions abroad - decisions by the President, the Supreme Council for National Defense, and, depending on the situation, Parliament. I described the legal order of operations for each scenario. I never said Romania had chosen any of the technical options I mentioned," Miruta stressed.

The simple motion against the Defense minister, criticizing his handling of national security and his statements on the "potential deployment of Romanian troops to Greenland", was debated and voted on Monday in the Senate. Titled "Progressive Minister Radu Miruta compromises the credibility of Romania's defense policy through irresponsible statements and lack of strategic analysis", it is signed by 41 MPs (28 AUR senators and 13 PACE - Romania first lawmakers).
