The new year begins in European Capital of Culture Timisoara 2023 with a month dedicated to the celebration of music, opening on Friday at the Banatul Philharmonic and the Romanian National Opera Timisoara (ONRT), with programmes that continue the festive atmosphere that marked the close of 2025.
The Banatul Philharmonic invites music lovers from 7:00 pm to the concert "Waltzes and Whirlwinds", featuring a programme inspired by the Viennese repertoire and made up of selections from some of the best-known waltzes, polkas and orchestral works associated with the festive spirit of the start of the year. Audiences will be able to enjoy beloved works by Johann Strauss, Josef Strauss and Johann Strauss II.
The Banatul Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by Cristian Spataru.
"The concert series this month reflects the Banatul Philharmonic's commitment to offering the Timisoara audience a diverse repertoire and high-quality performances. From classical vocal and symphonic works to rarely performed pieces, the programme invites listeners to a rich and expressive musical experience," said the institution's manager, Ovidiu Florian Andris, as quoted in a press release.
The Romanian National Opera Timisoara will raise the curtain for the first time this year with its New Year's Concert, starting at 7:00 pm.
Under the baton of guest conductor Radu Zaharia, soloists Lacrimioara Cristescu, Mihaela Marcu and Bogdan Zaharia will take the stage, performing famous works by Johann Strauss and Franz Lehar, alongside the orchestra of the Romanian National Opera Timisoara.
