Romanian tennis player Simona Halep, world no.2, was nominated in Romania's Fed Cup team for the match against Canada, in the first tour of the World Group II, according to a press release sent to AGERPRES.
Florin Segarceanu, Romania's team nonplaying-captain also convened Sorana Cirstea (WTA's 36th), Irina-Camelia Begu (WTA's 37th) and Raluca Olaru (WTA's 45th) for the match due to take place in Cluj-Napoca's Sala Polivalenta, on 10 and 11 February.
Halep, finalist in the Australian Open tournament, the year's first Grand Slam, reported injuries at both legs during the Melbourne tournament which she concluded in a worn out state, after the marathon matches with Lauren Davis (3 hours and 45 minutes, in the third tour), Angelique Kerber (2 hours and 20 minutes in the semifinals) and Caroline Wozniacki (2 hours and 50 minutes in the finals).
Romania defeated Canada, 3-2, in Montreal, in April 2015, thanks to this victory getting promoted in the World Group. Romania also holds a victory against Canada, in 1983 in Zurich, 3-0, in the World Group's first tour.
