With a temperature of minus 20.2 degrees Celsius recorded in Camar, northwestern Salaj County was on Tuesday night to Wednesday, the "cold pole" in Romania, according to data recorded at weather stations placed by the amateur meteorologists from Severe Weather Alert - Salaj (SWAS), compared to the official data of the National Meteorological Administration (ANM), Agerpres reports.
"January 11 to 12 - the night when Salaj became the cold pole in Romania, registering -20.2 degrees Celsius at SWAS Camar Station, and the temperatures dropped so much that they were lower than on the mountain tops - Omu Peak Stations, Balea Lac, Vladeasa, Ceahlau, Toaca - with which they were on par last night, but also in the already famous depressions in the country: Miercurea Ciuc, Gheorgheni, Toplita area," informs, on Wednesday, a post on the Facebook page of Severe Weather Alert.
According to the cited source, the causes of the low temperatures include the rapid clearance of the sky from the North-West part of the country compared to other areas where it is still cloudy and the more consistent snow layer currently existing in the West, North and North-West region of the county.
Severe Weather Alert - Salaj is a group of amateur meteorologists who, since 2021, have placed several weather stations in different parts of the county and constantly present on their Facebook page weather forecasts for Salaj and neighboring counties.
