Romania is taking part in the Festival du Livre de Paris from 17 to 19 April, the leading international book event in the French capital, with authors including Gabriela Adamesteanu, Mircea Cartarescu and Matei Visniec among the invitees.
Romania's participation is organised by the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR), through the National Book Centre and ICR Paris, in partnership with the Romanian Embassy in France and the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Paris, the ICR said in a press release.
Over the three days of the festival, readers will be able to meet at Romania's stand in the Grand Palais authors including Gabriela Adamesteanu, Sylvain Audet-Gainar, Mala Barbulescu, Anna Benczedi, Dan Burcea, Estelle Cantala, Mircea Cartarescu, Clara Cernat, Iulia Dondorici, Radu Gavan, Alta Ifland, Doina Lemny, Ioana Nicolaie, Corina Ozon, Ecaterina Paraschiv, Daniela Ratiu, Bogdan-Alexandru Stanescu, Maria Surducan, Matei Visniec, Adrian Voicu and Elise Wilk.
The motto of Romania's presence at the 2026 edition is "Roumanie, par-dela les frontieres | Un territoire toujours a decouvrir" ("Romania, beyond borders / A territory still to be discovered"), inviting readers to discover or rediscover contemporary Romanian authors and works.
At Romania's stand (NC32), visitors will be able to purchase the latest French-language editions of books by Romanian writers, ranging from fiction and poetry to art and photography albums. The selection includes around 60 titles by Romanian authors translated into French and published in France and Switzerland, as well as more than 60 titles in Romanian from 13 publishing houses.
The programme of events dedicated to recently translated Romanian works includes sessions on the festival's stages (Scene Concorde and Scene Jeunesse), organised at the invitation of Paris Livres Evenements, as well as off-site events held in partnership with the Romanian and Moldovan embassies in Paris.
A continuation of the Salon du Livre, launched in 1981, the Festival du Livre de Paris is the largest event of its kind dedicated to the Francophone publishing world. More than 450 publishing houses are taking part, with organisers promising "a true celebration of the book in all its forms".
In collaboration with the Centre Pompidou, the programme also features, among others, a Grande Galerie de l'Adaptation (Grand Adaptation Gallery) and previews of films and TV series with SCELF, a Sea Gallery organised with the Ministry of the Sea, and a children's village.
