President of Romania Nicusor Dan said on Sunday that he will not make public the names of the individuals proposed for the leadership of the intelligence services, in order to avoid a political crisis.
He said in Chisinau that "stability is important in Romania" and that the behind-the-scenes negotiations regarding the leadership of the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) and the Foreign Intelligence Service (SIE) will not be made public.
"Regarding all the speculation about the heads of the services - once there is an agreement between myself and the representatives of the parliamentary majority, you will receive news. I believe stability is important in Romania right now, and we are not in a position to afford political games. The President puts forward a nomination, Parliament rejects it... When I make the official proposal, I will be certain that Parliament will vote in favour, and until then, you will not receive any information from me about what was discussed behind closed doors," said Nicusor Dan.
