Romania's relationship with the United States is extremely mature, with shared interests, President Nicusor Dan said on Thursday in Washington, where he participated in the meeting of the Board of Peace initiated by U.S. President Donald Trump.
On the sidelines of the gathering he met with senior U.S. officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
"At this type of gathering, most exchanges between participants are courtesy conversations. I spoke for a minute or two with many people from different parts of the world. But when it comes to Romania's relationship with the United States, this is a diplomatic relationship conducted through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through advisers, technical meetings and ministerial visits. Here, through Romania's Embassy in the United States, we have a growing file with many layers," the president explained.
Nicusor Dan added that these technical discussions are part of a broader picture of a Romania - U.S. partnership that is "extremely mature, with mutual interests".
In this context, he underscored, the president's presence in Washington "was a symbolic gesture".
