The natural increase in Romania's population remained negative in January of this year, at minus 12,146 people, compared to minus 14,538 people in January 2021, according to data published on Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
According to the quoted source, during the reference period, the number of live births registered in January 2022 was 317 higher compared to the same month in 2021.
INS data show that the number of people who died in January 2022 was 2,075 lower than in January 2021.
Thus, after the first three main causes of death, in January 2022, compared to the same month in 2021, there were 1,523 fewer deaths due to respiratory diseases, 682 fewer deaths due to circulatory diseases, but with 60 more deaths caused by tumors.
At the same time, the number of children under one year of age who died was 17 times higher in January 2022 than the one registered in January 2021, Agerpres reports.
In January 2022, 12,520 people (6,429 men and 6,091 women) died in urban areas, and 13,795 people (7,265 men and 6,530 women) died in rural areas.
Compared to the same month in 2021, the number of people who died decreased by 1,450 people (1,115 men and 335 women) in urban areas and by 625 people (409 men and 216 women) in rural areas.
In addition, the number of marriages in January 2022 was 288 times higher than in the same month of the previous year.
By final court decisions and according to Law no. 202/2010, in January 2022, there were 103 fewer divorces than in January 2021.
Compared to January 2022 - December 2021, 14,169 children were born in January, with 2,381 fewer children than in December 2021.
The number of deaths recorded in January 2022 was 26,315 (13,694 men and 12,621 women), with 1,325 deaths (604 men and 721 women) less than in December 2021. The number of deaths of children under 1 year, registered in January 2022, it was 103 children, increasing by 7 compared to December 2021.
The natural increase remained negative (-12,146) in January 2022, the number of deceased persons being 1.9 times higher than that of live births.
At the same time, in January 2022, 4,427 marriages were registered at the civil status offices, 677 less than in December 2021.
The number of divorces pronounced by final court decisions and according to Law no. 202/2010 was 610 in January 2022, with 1,814 less than in December 2021.
