President Klaus Iohannis, Governor of the National Bank of Romania Mugur Isarescu and Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos are three of the public figures Romanians trust the most, an INSCOP - ADEVARUL on Romania poll conducted between 21-28 March shows.
Accordingly, 51.2pct of the respondents said they have much and very much confidence in President Iohannis, compared to 59.8pct in November 2015, followed by Mugur Isarescu, 36.1pct, compared to 40.4pct in November 2015.
PM Dacian Ciolos ranks third, with 30.4pct, compared to 32.6pct in November 2015, followed by Romanian Ambassador to the US George Maior, with 27.3pct. A total of 17.1pct of respondents mentioned that they did not know who Maior is.
Former PM Victor Ponta ranks fifth, with 23.3pct, compared to 20.2pct in November 2015, followed by Senate Speaker Calin Popescu-Tariceanu, Co-Chair of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE), with 22pct and TV personality and politician, Gabriela Firea, a mayoral candidate in Bucharest for the Social Democratic Party (PSD), included for the first time in the poll, with 21.1pct.
Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SIE), Mihai Razvan Ungureanu ranks eight, with 20.1pct (compared to 21.8pct in November 2015) and Minister of Regional Development and Public Administration Vasile Dincu ranks ninth, with 17.1pct (17.3pct in November). A total of 25.2pct of respondents stated they did not know Dincu.
National Liberal Party (PNL) co-chair Alina Gorghiu is ranked tenth, with 16.7pct (18.6pct in November 2015), with 10.6pct of respondents indicating they did not know who Gorghiu is.
The next positions are occupied by former president Traian Basescu, with 15.4pct, and by interim chair of PNL's Bucharest chapter Catalin Predoiu, with 13.9pct, Romanian Social Party (PSR) chairman Mircea Geoana with 13.5pct, former Justice Minister Monica Macovei with 12.4pct, PNL's mayoral candidate for Bucharest City Hall Ludovic Orban with 10.8pct, PSD chairman Liviu Dragnea with 10.2pct, PNL co-chair Vasile Blaga with 9.1pct, former president Ion Iliescu, with 8.5pct, and speaker of Romania's Chamber of Deputies Valeriu Zgonea, with 8.1pct; a total of 16.6pct of respondents stated they do not know who Zgonea is.
The last three positions in the ranking are occupied by Save Bucharest Association Chair Nicusor Dan, with 7.7pct, and Marian Oprisan (PSD), with 4.1pct, Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) chairman Kelemen Hunor, with 3.4pct, followed by Romanian-born Hungarian MEP Laszlo Tokes, with 3pct, and Deputy PM Costin Borc, with 2.7pct.
The INSCOP ? ADEVARUL despre Romania (Truth about Romania) barometer was commissioned by Adevarul daily and conducted by INSCOP Research, March 21-28, 2016, on a representative sample of 1,063 respondents aged 18 years and above. It has a plus/ minus 3 percent error margin and an accuracy rate of 95 percent. The method used was interviewing the respondents at their home. AGERPRES
